7 Tips on Choosing The Right Banquet Hall for your Wedding or Party

In the cases where a wedding planner is helping you plan your special day, he/she will make sure that these details are up to par. But if you are planning the process yourself, here are a few things to look out for that will help your planning and day go smoothly.  These are just a few things to check off, but keep in mind design and color scheme plays an important role. The darker the room, the more you have you to do to bring light in. 

Some people love a bare room, which gives them room to add drapping, lighting and room props, but there are plenty of other factors to consider when choosing a venue. 

Don't take this task lightly, a great room can make or break your event.

1. How many people can the space accommodate

How many people can the site accommodates?  Depending on your event, you may be able to save money on the venue.  If you're total amount of guests is less than 100 people, look for smaller venues, which will cost less. Always take into account space for a DJ, Food/Drinks table, and dancing room. You want your guests to be comfortable with plenty of space to move around.

2. Do they provide on site vendors, preferred vendor list, or I can bring my own vendor

Some locations only allow certain "outside" vendors to come into the facility or they provide their own vendors.  So before you book your favorite DJ, caterer, or florist, make sure the venue is okay with them.  that's also another thing to consider when searching for a venue.  Some locations are a one-stop supplier while others just rent the space.

3. What is included with the space and price

Do they provide tables and chairs or an on-site kitchen. Do they have a liquor license with a bar. Not every site offers a bar. 

4. How long do you have the hall for

What time can you come in and setup and tear down? How many hours do I have for my party?  If your party starts at 9:00 p.m. and will end at 12:00 a.m., do you get extra time for setting up or is that included. In instances like this maybe you can move your party up an hour, starting at 8:00 p.m. which will give you an hour to setup.  Be aware that the end time will also be moved up an hour, ending at 11:00 p.m..  Now you would want to make sure that your guests know what time the festivities end and maybe you can start picking up things as you cha cha slide.

5.  Site fee, deposit, and final payment

Is a deposit require and when is the full balance due?  Do I get my deposit back and under what conditions. What a great night it would be, a great party with money back.  

6. Parking

Make sure there is on site parking AND enough spaces to accommodate your guests. No one likes to hike from the next street in heels to your reception site.

7. Availability 

Make sure the date AND time is available. You would be surprise how many people have their mind set on a particular site and neglect to check on availability.
