My Aha Moment

So here is my aha moment...It came right after Thanksgiving, Now, I know that is usually the time that people starts reflecting on their lives and what they are thankful for, which I try to do on a daily basis (try), but it was more of what I have learned about myself as a mother and as as entrepreneur.

Back couple years ago, when the thought came to go into business for myself, I jumped in because I still had my regular 9-5, which by the way I do  love (paralegal) and I thought well, what do I have to lose? So I went for it. As with any new business owner, we often underestimate the business-side of running a business AND I also underestimate or the time came a lot quicker than I thought, was my little prince growing up so fast and becoming more active and coming to the age bracket that he can play sports, go to the movies, see shows, etc...I slowly found my time being split between my son, my 9-5, and my business, which left almost little time to actually enjoy it all.  I even started to feel like a failure because I felt I wasn't performing ALL my tasks and duties at 100% capacity. After pulling a few strands of gray hair out, I made a careful list of my likes and priorities as it stands today.  Then, I made another list of all my "jobs" and duties.  I took both list compare them to each other and made some tough and not so tough decisions about my future.

First, you have to really be ready to make those changes and brace yourself for a little anxiety and fear, after all those are the companions of changes.  This is especially true to my single mothers and entrepreneurs out there. We want so much for our children that sometimes we get lost in the shuffle and adding a business to that, well I don't really need to explain to you what happens to you both physically and mentally. So to this I tell you, decide what can wait and what you can successfully accomplish now. Taking something off your plate, does not make you a quitter or failure.  In fact, that is a smart move, having your attention spread to five different things and getting nothing accomplished is far worst than focusing on one or two and getting them both done.  Another part of my aha moment came when I realized that certain aspect of the event business was not possible for me to focus on. It required too much of my time that I did not have and I didn't believe it would be fair to a client to promise them something that I would not be able to accurately focus on.  Now, I will still be involved in the designing aspect of an event and will focus more time into some other design ideas swimming in my head for some times now.

So with that being said, my 2015 goal is just that, focus on what matters NOW and give in more to my creative senses and smelling as many roses as I can in the walk of life.
