Happy Birthday Song | Court's Ruling

Happy birthday cupcakes at eventsojudith.blogspot.com
I bet you didn't know that there was an ongoing lawsuit, and in fact a ruling came down on Tuesday to end all disputes. Remember all those happy birthday songs you sung over the years? Well, there would be a possibility that you were involved in violating some publishers' rights or copyrights. Yep, all those toddlers, and cute babies that pounded their fists into that first birthday cake while adults stood around singing off key, may have well been breaking the law. Before you start packing and making sure your passports are in order, rest assure U.S. District Judge, George H. King was thinking about the public when he made his decision on Tuesday. Put it this way, this falls along the same line as "The Decision" that Lebron James crippled the basketball world with a few years ago before "taking his talents to South Beach," fiasco.

The story behind the ruling is that various publishers were claiming the rights to the song which was written by two sisters, Patty and Mildred Hill, which was also up for debate since the sisters never did anything to protect their song. Warner-Chappell, which is owned by Sony, the purported rights holder to the song was speechless after Tuesday's decision. As of yesterday ladies and gentlemen, commercial uses of the song is now permissible. Yes that means, use it on your site, on your blog, on those viral videos, just sing your hearts out as it is now YOUR song too.

Rob Wile wrote an article on the drama, the lawsuit, the decision, the losers and the winners. 'It Now Belongs To The Public," Read More, on this historic ruling.
