After the I-dos and in between jamming on the dance floor to your favorite song, you and your new hubby will need a place to sit, specifically a place just for the two of you. One of my favorite things to designed in a wedding is, the sweetheart table. One of the reasons is because it's one of the few places you can add as much "mix-match" details and make it flow with your decor. It is also the focal point of the reception room.
For most brides-to-be, the focus is on their guests tables whether oblong or 72" round tables, which I get, and then they decide on a square of half-circle shaped sweetheart table. Choosing the right style is just as important as every other aspect of your decor. And this post, will help you design the perfect sweetheart table for your reception.
Let's take a look at 8 key designs for your table:
A sweetheart table gives you and your new hubby a special space to sit, eat or rest from dancing too much. A chance to cozy up and steal away some kisses. So, think of you and hubby's personality and bring it to the design scheme. Okay wait! I have to say, don't design a Great Gatsby themed wedding and have cowboy boots spikes on your table, that's not what I mean by going nuts. Like I said, this is a focal point in the room, use it to show your personalities.Let's take a look at 8 key designs for your table:
So how can you make this special zone pop?
1. Add Flowers
Whether you go with a simple display like the Calla Lilies above or a special arrangement, adding flowers is a great touch. Want to stand out even more, have different flowers from the ones on your guests tables or change the height. For example, if all the tables have tall centerpieces, how about a low centerpiece for yours. The first picture on this post is a perfect example of a low arrangement, hydrangeas and orchid. You can't never go wrong with those two.
2. Add Lights

Remember those twinkle Christmas lights? Well, here they get another use. This is the perfect added touch and it's really affordable to add on.
3. Personalize It

Every detail counts. You see that little octopus on the right front corner, Melissa (one of the weddings that I help designed) added it to represent a loved one that had passed. Add your engagement photo or your new family's photo in a beautiful frame. That special poem or lyrics to your first dance. Make it special. Your initials or new last name in Marquee letters always a hit.
4. Killer Backdrop

You can keep it classy with like the one pictured above with a chandelier and beautiful draping.
5. Add Candles

Candles are another great super inexpensive add-on. But want to kick it up a notch? How about some Candelabras like the one above. Use your the floor space in front of your table and add lanterns. You can use LED candles to avoid burnouts.
6. Special Table

I'll be honest with you guys, the acrylic table is not cheap, but the effect can not be measured. If your budget allow it and you want to go the extra extra mile, how about an acrylic sweetheart table? Like the talented Rachel Clingen used above, This idea will be sure to make a bold statement. Another option is a serpentine table. It's different from the square or round-shaped table.
7. Add Props
Remember earlier, we spoke about adding personal touches, one of the best way to do that is to add props.

How about this gold infinity sign from Etsy (click on the caption for the Etsy shop).

This wooden You & Me sign I did for this bridal shower is another great touch.

Chair signs and get creative. Unless people have room to walk behind the two of you, having a chair sign on the back of your chair may not work. That idea works better at an outdoor weddings. So switch that sign around and show off your new last name or title.

A special bottle of bubbly works well too. I get asked about my DIY bling bottle all the time (pictured above), but any special bottle will do. And that is just for you two.

A special napkin fold is cute too like the one I did above.
7. Have a Seat

Think of comfort! When you do decide to sit down, you want to be comfortable, so forgo the regular banquet chairs and go for a love seat or dining room like chair. These come in so many styles now and your options are wide ranged. Another option is the throne chair for the king and queen. The cost for these special chair starts at $150 each and goes up. So make sure there's room in your budget for it.
8. Specialty Linen

There are so many to choose from, from Rosette to Sequins to Taffeta. Your planner/designer will know what from what and help you decide. For the first table under this series, I went with an ivory Rosette and it turned out great.
Side Note: I have a full post coming up on the different linens and covers you can use for your event. And these are not just for weddings or sweetheart tables, when ever you want to accent a special table a specialty linen is the way to go. I love them all.

And there you have it. 8 great ways to step-up your special table or head table. Have fun with it. This will be the most photographed table, so make sure to make a bold statement. Remember what I said earlier, some of the ideas requires a little extra cash, so make sure there's room in the budget for it.
