PRE-WEDDING PARTY: The Bridal Shower

She said yes, bridal shower, bridal cookies, bridal party

Hey guys so yesterday, we broke down the dos and donts of the Engagement Party. Today, we're going to focus on the Bridal Shower. What exactly is the purpose of the bridal shower?

The bridal shower is a party honoring the bride-to-be.  Traditionally it has been an all female event, but over the years, couple's shower or Jack-and-Jill theme parties have been popping up everywhere. Which way you go with it is completely up to the newly engaged couple or hostess. What a bridal shower is NOT is an all-night party. It's usually done on a smaller scale. And since I told you guys yesterday, I'm old fashioned when it come down to love and wedding events, I'm going to keep this post a traditional women-only bridal shower. don't mistake this for your bridesmaid brunch or girl's day. I'll cover that tomorrow.

So who's hosting the bridal shower? Who's footing the bill?

Speaking on formal tradition:

Who Host: Usually it is hosted by the bridesmaids, the bride or groom's mother, or in some cases other close female relatives. (Hosting, also means paying for it). You can ask for contribution from the bridal party to help with the cost, but the couple or bride-to-be is not responsible for paying. Keeping with yesterday's theme of formality, you can send out, Save The Date cards on invitations to your guests.

When: The ideal time frame is between three months and two weeks before the wedding. My planner's advice: try to have it fall between the two closer to three  months before. The last thing you need is to be stressing two weeks before your big day. And, no, you don't need to invite every single female wedding guests,  just the bride's closest female friends and family.

Where you to choose to host your shower is completely up to you. You can go with a setting like the one above at a clubhouse or your home if space permits it, or restaurant with a private event dining room area like the picture below. Two designs that I created and was very happy with the turned out.

The great advantage with a formal bridal shower, you get to keep things small which would allow you to  be more creative with you DIY projects, like this pretty Lace Plate Charger created with a Cricut machine.

What to serve is also up to the hostess. How about setting up a mimosa bar like the one I did below. Cheers!

You can put a menu together by ordering from your local baker or sweets shop. If the bridal shower is held in a restaurant, ask about a prefix menu that you can choose from.

Don't forget about the sweets. A nice simple two tier cake is all you need or some decorative cupcakes.

To theme or not is up to the hostess. The theme above was Bride & Co. But there are so many themes to choose from, just don't go crazy.

A side note about gifts, an invited guest is NOT required to bring a gift, especially if they were also invited to the engagement party. But if you want your guests to bring something small, make a note of it on your invites and please add, "not required." And that goes for members of the bridal party as well.

Now let's get into some fun stuff. Bridal shower games are great! Adults play games too, so what are some type of adult fun games you can have:

Some other fun ideas:

1. Recipe for a Happy Marriage - where the guest jot down their advice for the bride-to-be.

2. Who Knows the Bride?

3. What's in your Purse or Cell Phone?

4. Bridal Scavenger - spread small mini rings around the room and whomever found the most  wins.

5. Find The Guest - write down some cool wacky facts that only you know about your guests and have them walk around to see who each fact belongs to. It's a great ice breaker. (find the guest that's been married 5+ years - find the guest with the butterfly tattoo, etc...)

6. Wedding word scramble (ribed = bride)

7. Celebrity wives - Who is Jay Z married to? = Beyonce)

8. Tie the Knot - have two guests using only one hand try to tie knot

9. Wedding Pictionary

10. Put a Rig On it Ring toss
